Wow, i got tagged for a meme – thanks !
Okay, my six favorite (current) songs:
1. Dolly Parton/Royksopp – 9 to 5
This is a fantastic song to listen to any time of the day or night – although it’s especially appropriate on your way to work. I start every mix cd I make with this song. Fabuloso!
2. Muse – Apocalypse Please
Epic, sweeping, pounding pianos = tremendous song. It was a close call between this one and, what’s that other one, Stockholm Syndrome? Whatever it is, but I decided to go with this one. I feel kind of embarrassed by Muse, but I’ve no idea why…
3. Magnetic Fields – With Whom To Dance
A lovely, dreamy, romantic song. Utterly singable, swayable, and, of course, waltzable.
4. Jem (no, not the 80s glam doll thing) – They
Love the a capella group bit at the beginning. It’s repetitive, but pretty damn catchy, I think.
5. Kaki King – Playing With Pink Noise
She’s awesome. The coolest thing, though, is to see her play – she plays the guitar with her left hand over the top of the fingerboard and slaps the body with the right hand in between strumming. So. Cool.
6. Philip Glass – Knee 5 from Einstein On The Beach
I will never not love and adore this song. So utterly bizarre and yet so perfect. I don’t know the context of the opera it’s from, but I have a book and mean to learn soon enough. But in the meantime, I will just enjoy it for what it is and hope that someone out there shares it with me.
In the meantime, it’s now hot, hot, and muggy here. Bleach! Went used bookstore shopping and bought yet another copy of Three Men In A Boat by Jerome K. Jerome (love him!), Holidays On Ice by David Sedaris (everybody says he’s great and that I should read him, so I thought ‘why not?’ and what I believe is a first American edition of CoS. It was eight bucks, so whatever, right? I can’t really believe it’s worth anything, but I’ve heard rumors that they can be. Who knows, eh?
