Whew! Back from Pirates. And I liked it. I think I’ve heard a couple people saying that it’s just too…everything. And at first, I thought ‘well, there must be only so many buckles you can swash.’ Boy was I wrong. If there was anything I didn’t like (I admit that it’s not movie-making at its best and will therefore refrain from saying ‘If there’s anything wrong with it’ – there are, I’m just saying I didn’t really care), it’s that I wanted MORE of the final sea battle – as far as I can tell, the Black Pearl really just fought the Flying Dutchman (does anybody else have a hard time not thinking ‘Frying Dutchman’ a la Simpsons?) and then the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman fought (or, to be more accurate, destroyed the hell out of) the Endeavor. I wanted to see the Armada go down!
I was a little disappointed with the lack of chemistry between Elizabeth and Will – frankly, I sort of thought Elizabeth had more chemistry with Barbosa and Will had more chemistry with his father! So that was lame. Speaking of Barbosa, Geoffrey Rush, SO MUCH LOVE! Wow!
So yeah, I’m going to say I liked it. Hmm, what previews did we see - Rise of the Silver Surfer (looks interesting, but I didn’t see the first one, so probably not.), Ratatouille (I will be there with bells on – I noticed it’s directed, but not written by (I don’t think), Brad Bird, so we’ll see if it’s more Cars or Incredibles (I’m hoping Incredibles)), Golden Compass (looks gorgeous! I don’t remember a whole lot about the books, but my instinct was to be excited when I heard they were making this film, so…), Live Free or Die Hard (or whatever it’s called – all right, I will admit it, I’m a Die Hard fan. I will probably go see this. Deal with it.), what else…Oh! HARRY POTTER! Looking better than ever and I don’t really get excited about the films (books are another story), but I’m looking forward to this one.
So the new summer blockbuster tally is 1-2 (1 being Pirates, 2 being Spidey and Shrek).
Now on to moving the rest of my lj over and then declaring this blog open for business! Huzzah!
