RONCO!

Late-night infomercials are fun to watch…until that 3-month, $13.33 price tag starts to sound like a pretty good deal…

Observations

  • The RONCO guy is the new Dick Clark – he hasn’t aged a day!
  • Did you know that the cleaver is a real man’s knife? Apparently it is.
  • If your knives need to able to cut through shoe leather, you need cooking classes not a better knife.

My boyfriend cooks!

The title makes it sound like this is a rare occurrence, so let me clarify – Drew is a very good cook and we manage to split the kitchen duties fairly evenly around here. For Christmas, I got him The Sriracha Cookbook along with a giant bottle of sriracha – there are some really interesting recipes in there including one for a peach-sriracha sorbet which sounds very intriguing! His brother got him a package of white grits along with lots of other yummy goodies, so for dinner earlier in the week, Drew made Three-Cheese Grits from his new cookbook. I don’t think I’d ever had grits before, but they were really good! Creamy and cheesy and spicy. Yum!

The recipe made a TON of grits, though, so he took the cookbook’s advice for leftovers and pan-fried slices to serve along with a little green salad for dinner the next night. Also yummy!

We’ve even had them cold – I like them cold on a bed of salad greens which make a cool and crunchy contrast to the creamy, spicy grits. A very successful start – I hope there are many more sriracha-based meals to come!

Sparkly New Year’s nails, take 2!

I ended up changing my nail polish yet again for New Year’s. Drew and I were going to a party at some friends of his’ house and I wanted to make a good impression, so I went and found a lovely sparkly new New Year’s Eve party outfit:

Sparkly dress, sparkly tights, sparkly ankle boots, sparkly ring, sparkly bracelet, sparkly earrings. SPARKLY! So I felt I needed appropriately sparkly nails (also my colorful sparkly nails had gotten quite a bit chipped while I was out trying on various lacy things at the mall). I turned to the final nail polish in the Nails Inc. set that Liz had given me for Christmas, Disco Lane.

It was a lot less flashy than it looked in the bottle (and I accidentally made it a little more textured and matte by washing my hands while the polish was still secretly wet), but I thought that since my outfit was so sparkly a little subtlety might be a nice complement to it. I did layer it over black polish so I can’t speak to its coverage, but I still liked it a lot!
